We’re often asked, what is the difference between our “S” and CB” models. It’s a great question that could use clarification. The S stands for Sedan, being the traditional hardtop version of our R-29, R-31, and R-43. CB designates the “Command Bridge” version of each model, meaning on the rooftop, there is a second helm station with a complete second set of controls.
Many call it a flybridge, we call it a Commad Bridge because of the complete controls available, and it sounds cool... On the bridge, no captain will feel left lacking. Controls include a Garmin chartplotter, engine display, electronic throttle controls, bow thruster joystick, VHF, autopilot, and even a Helm Master joystick to make docking a breeze.
There’s something special about running the boat from the bridge. Maybe it’s the salt-air, the sound of the bow piercing through the water, the warm sun and fresh breeze, maybe it’s all the above. When you’re out cruising, having friends and family up on the bridge to experience the scenery from the tall vantage is fuel for memories to be made.
Our design team has put a great deal of thought into our bridge boats to reduce any potential compromises. One example is the added height, which should rule out trailering or crossing under low bridges, but they thought of that. The bridge is hinged to lower the height enough to be trailered in all 50 states. It would seem like the stairs to the bridge would block the view aft from the lower helm, but they thought of that too. Each riser on the steps to the bridge has a window to see through, providing visibility aft while in the cabin. There’s even an optional bridge Bimini to keep the warm rays of the sun from becoming, too warm. How about keeping the bridge out of the elements when the sky begins to weep? A full set of canvas covers provided standard, keeps all the important parts sheltered.
Why might you decide against a bridge model? One consideration is carrying gear. Our sedan models feature Sport Racks on the rooftop, which you’ll trade out on the bridge version. That’s not to say that you’re unable to carry gear up top, there are many third-party options available, including kayak and paddleboard carriers that attach to the bridge handrails. For some people, it’s that they prefer the look of the Sedan, and that’s okay! We love both versions and that’s why we build each.
It all comes down to what you prefer and whether you see yourself enjoying the view and additional entertaining space that the bridge provides. To see photos and learn more about our Sedan and Command Bridge models, visit the R-29 CB, R-31 CB, and R-43 CB model pages.
